Why our olive oil is unique
Our TUSCAN organic extra virgin olive oil, with an intense flavour that is pleasant on the palate, stands out above all for its high content of natural antioxidants and vitamin E.
We can guarantee a minimum content of 600 mg/kg in every bottle of these important antioxidants, called polyphenols.
To achieve this extraordinary result, the olives have to be skilfully harvested before they are fully ripe. This means a very low yield but an extremely high concentration of all the most beneficial active compounds.
Throughout the entire supply chain, including storage in our warehouses, a constant temperature of between 15 and 20 °C is maintained so as not to alter the polyphenol matrix.
Why is it important to use an extra virgin olive oil with these characteristics?
Only by using an olive oil with these characteristics can you really make the most of the benefits of its active compounds, taking the daily amount of 20 g recommended by EFSA (European Food Safety Authority).
Polyphenols are natural substances found in olive oil that have beneficial effects on health. The health claim approved by EFSA states that olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress.
But what are blood lipids? Blood lipids are the fats in the blood, which include several substances, such as:
- Cholesterol: A type of fat that the body needs for several functions, such as producing hormones and building cells. There are two main types of cholesterol: LDL (“bad” cholesterol) and HDL (“good” cholesterol).
- Triglycerides: Another type of fat, which the body uses for energy. High concentrations of triglycerides may be associated with health problems, such as heart disease.
What does oxidative stress mean? Oxidative stress is a harmful process in which free radicals (unstable molecules) can damage cells and the lipids in the blood, contributing to health problems such as cardiovascular disease. Olive oil polyphenols help to protect the fats in the blood (the lipids) from this oxidative damage, keeping them healthier and contributing to general wellbeing.
In short, eating olive oil rich in polyphenols is not only tasty but can also help to keep the fats in our blood (such as cholesterol and triglycerides) safe from oxidative stress, thus promoting our health.
